A Step-by-Step Guide to Hanging Wreaths on Kitchen Cabinets

Generally speaking, adding a garland decoration in the kitchen can add a warm and festive atmosphere to our kitchen. But it's not just for the holidays, we can decorate the kitchen, make homemade treats, and bake our favorite cookies anytime! I love to use my kitchen garland to host and create a pleasant atmosphere!

How to hang a wreath on a cabinet? Below I can share a few simple methods and steps.

First, we need to choose the right type of wreath.

Artificial wreath: suitable for long-term use, no special maintenance, such as plastic, silk, etc. Natural garlands: more environmentally friendly and natural, but need to be replaced regularly, such as pine branches, dried flowers, etc. Most of the time I choose artificial wreaths for my cabinets.

The second is the garland color collocation and style choice, which is closely related to what type of cabinet door we have.
Choose a garland color that matches the overall tone of the kitchen. If it is a holiday themed wreath, such as Christmas, you can choose red, green and gold.

The style should be selected according to their own preferences, for example, I have an antique cabinet, and the garland style I match will be slightly more complicated.

One more thing to note: the size of the wreath
We generally choose the appropriate wreath diameter according to the size of the cabinet door. The key is to make sure your garland is inside the door frame so it doesn't become an obstacle. I chose mini wreaths on my pantry door and then slightly larger wreaths on the other cabinet doors. In general, garlands between 6 and 10 inches in diameter work best.
Here are the materials and tools for hanging the wreath.
Hooks and sticky hooks: This is very important, do not use nails or tack! I can't punch a hole in my painted cabinet. We just painted it last summer, using clear adhesive hooks to avoid leaving marks on the cabinet surface, and reusable hooks are more environmentally friendly and economical.

Ribbon and string: The length of the ribbon depends on how far you want the garland to hang, and the ribbon color and material should coordinate with the garland. I usually add about 2 inches at the top and then 4 inches above the wreath because you need to wrap it around the wreath to secure it and hang it on the top of the cabinet door to make sure the ribbon can hang the wreath securely.

Magnet hooks: If your panels are metal-faced cabinets, you can choose to use magnet hooks.

Other tools you may also need: scissors, tape measure, hot glue gun, glue stick, hot glue finger protector, varnacle tape or clear wrapping tape.

Now for the most exciting step! We're gonna start hanging wreaths.

Step 1: Clean cabinet surfaces to ensure they are free of dust and grease. Choose the right position to avoid obstructing the normal opening of the cabinet door.
Step 2: Measure and cut the desired ribbon length to make sure it matches the height you set. You can prepare all the ribbon needed for the garland at the same time. This will save you time. The length of the ribbon depends on your preference, but I like to hang it a little bit above the center.
Step 3: Secure the end of the ribbon by attaching the cut ribbon to the wreath first. Here you have the option of threading the ribbon through the back of the garland and securing it from the back with hot glue. Be careful not to burn your fingers when using the hot glue gun to secure the ribbon. This may make the wreath look more elaborate. But I usually just tie the ribbon knot and hide the joint because I'm a rebel.
Step 4: On the inside of the cabinet door, hang down about an inch or so from the top, attach the adhesive hook to the cabinet door, and hang the garland outside the door by ribbon or string. If you use a magnet hook: just attach the garland directly to the metal cabinet.
So our wreath is fixed, it is not very simple!
You may also be wondering: How do you hang a wreath without a ribbon? Surely there is an easier way! You can use the command hook!
My range hood wreath is secured with a simple, oversized command hook. Note that you need to buy a good load bearing hook here, and be sure to be glue free! If it is thin enough, you can also hook it directly onto the wreath.
Or, if yours is too thick to fit into the hook like mine, tie it with wire and just tie a small loop around the wreath to secure it to the hook.

Here are some considerations

  1. Avoid damage to the cabinet surface: use hooks and fixing methods that leave no trace.
  2. Change the wreath regularly: If you use a natural wreath, change it regularly to keep it fresh.

Sum up

Let's do it now! Whether you choose a festive look or a year-round green, wreaths can bring a warm feeling to your home. We hope this guide will help you decorate your kitchen cabinets with confidence and style.
